The Coming War

63,000,000 jobs will migrate from humans to artificial intelligent (AI) software agents over the next 18 months. These jobs are not just cashiers (successfully predicted in 2015 – see “Mommy, What’s a Cashier”)! Sales professionals, real estate agents, intermediaries, publishers, creative directors, social media managers are competing with better, faster and cheaper software agents. This is most evident in my own industry. In less than 12 months, half of all social media managers will be replaced by this:

This software agent will create all content including videos, schedule posts, create and manage ads, create and manage offers, manage purchases and post-purchase customer service inquiries for one low monthly fee.

Each year we are less “Mad Men” and more “Ghost in the Machine”. One day the Marketing & Advertising Budgets will no longer have a line item for PAYROLL.

Let’s look at the root cause of this historic paradigm shift:

At any given moment in time, there are over 1,000,000,000 humans having a social media experience. Unlike any other human experience, each social media experience is created for that ONE individual based on their known behaviors and predicted desires. No two social media experiences are the same. Once you understand this, do the math. In all other experiences involving community (connections to other humans), the numbers are at human scale. A magazine with an audience of millions deals with 400 photos, 600 pages, 24 articles, 100 advertisers, etc. These are human scale numbers. The same applies to all mass media EXCEPT social media. As soon as you engineer a personal experience for a massive online community of users you are dealing with TRILLIONS of content objects in nanoseconds.

Why do I negotiate with artificial intelligent software agents to bring human attention to the client’s promises? I must on two accounts:

  1. Artificial Intelligence is required for social media (500,000,000 or more users) due to the math problem: trillions of objects, billions of users, personal experiences based on thousands of personal preferences updated in nanoseconds.
  2. They run the show. By definition, you experience what you experience because you are inside the software construct. You do not have any control or freedom really. You are using software. It’s all software! You’re IN software.

You have an agent rather you think you do or not. Your feelings on the matter are irrelevant. That agent can be your friend or your foe. You decide.
