Reality Equation / Human Attention
The Seed Attention Wakes
Attention does not always rush toward the largest event. Sometimes it turns because a small event waters the idea that was already waiting underground.
A seed does not become alive when water touches it. It was already alive in a quieter tense. The water changes its public condition. It gives the hidden life permission to break the surface.
Attention works the same way. The public world keeps explaining attention as if the event were the whole cause: a headline, a face, a notification, a confession, a diagnosis, a stock moving, a door left open. But the event is only the water. The seed is Expectation.
In the Reality Equation, Reality is Actual divided by Expectation. That denominator is not a flat prediction. Expectation is complex: E = P + iI. The real component is the prediction machine, the part of this Actualizer already estimating what will probably happen. The imaginary component is Ideation, the set of ideas already related to the person. Those ideas are not decorations inside the mind. Ideas have people, people do not have ideas. They wait for conditions.
This is why a small Actual can steal an enormous amount of attention. A message that says only “call me” may be nothing in one life and everything in another. Its force does not come from the words alone. It comes from the roots below them: the prediction that a relationship was steady, the idea of abandonment, the idea of being chosen, the idea of a debt finally reaching the door.
Surprise is the logarithm of Reality. When the Actual enters a prepared bed, the ratio can become large without the event being loud. The attention system is not measuring spectacle. It is measuring growth pressure. It asks where Reality has become too swollen for the soil of Expectation to keep covering it.
There is a useful cruelty in this. We often believe we are choosing where to look. More often, an idea inside us has been waiting for a factual excuse. The fact arrives and the idea rises with it. Attention feels like curiosity, concern, outrage, desire, dread, or hope. Underneath, it is a germination event.
Markets know this. The same product release can pass through one person as technical trivia and through another as proof that an old professional identity is ending. Politics knows it. The same sentence can be heard as policy by one group and as permission by another. Love knows it most intimately. A minor change in tone may become impossible to ignore because it wakes the idea that one is no longer safe inside another person’s expectation.
Artificial intelligence sharpens the distinction. A model can predict the next token with astonishing force and still miss the seedbed. Human attention is not captured by generic novelty or by prediction error alone, because the person is not a blank prediction surface. The person is an Actualizer already inhabited by ideas. The winning bid for attention is the Actual that gives one of those ideas the best growing conditions.

The same event can look small above the surface and still have deep roots below it. Use the field switch to reveal what attention was already growing through.
Actual
The thing happens. It may be as small as a sentence, a silence, a number, or a glance.
Prediction
The person had already planted a probable world. The Actual either feeds it or splits it.
Ideation
An idea was waiting for evidence. The Actual becomes its weather, and attention begins to turn.
Attention
The strongest surprise is not the biggest object. It is the place where hidden growth becomes visible.
The Event Is Not the Seed
This changes how we should speak about distraction. We blame the water because it is visible. We say the phone stole attention, the news stole attention, the other person stole attention. Sometimes that is true in the blunt practical sense. But the deeper theft happens when the Actual finds an expectation ready to become Reality.
To understand attention, ask what was already seeded. What did this person predict would continue? What idea had already claimed them? What old relation needed only one fresh fact to start growing again?
The highest bidder for attention is not merely the loudest Actual. It is the Actual that can turn a latent idea into present Reality. The bid is calculable, but it is never generic, because the denominator belongs to a particular Actualizer.
That is why attention can feel less like looking and more like being summoned from below. The world pours one small cup of water. The idea that has us breaks ground.
