Human Attention / Reality Equation
The Tremor Attention Records
The mind does not notice the ground while it holds. Attention arrives when Reality moves under an expectation that believed it was bedrock.
A person can live for years on a surface they never inspect. The marriage has a floor. The job has a floor. The city, the family story, the market, the faith, the body in the morning: each becomes ground because Expectation has made a contract with it.
Most of this ground is useful. Without it, life would be unlivable. The prediction machine gives the next instant somewhere to stand. It says the chair will hold, the friend will answer in a familiar tone, the street will remain where it was yesterday. Ideation does deeper work. It tells the ground what it means. This house is safety. This title is worth. This person is mine. This ritual is true.
Then the surface moves. Not always dramatically. A word is withheld. A diagnosis lands in a calm voice. A number on a statement refuses the story everyone was telling. A child asks the question adults had learned to step over. The event may be small, but the needle jumps because the ground was trusted.
The Reality Equation explains why the tremor is not the same for everyone. Reality is Actual divided by Expectation, and Expectation is not a simple forecast. It is P plus iI: prediction plus Ideation. Surprise is ln(R). The human being does not attend to bare motion. Attention is stolen by the ratio between the motion and the ground this Actualizer was standing on.
The quiet ground is part of the bid.
This is why betrayal steals more attention than inconvenience. A late package is annoying because prediction missed. A loyal friend becoming cold is seismic because prediction and idea both break. The Actual is not merely different from what was expected. It displaces a meaning that had been bearing weight. The surprise is not located only in the event. It is located in the relation between event and foundation.
Modern attention systems often exploit this by manufacturing artificial tremors. They do not need to produce truth. They only need to touch ground. Suggest that a status is slipping, a tribe is laughing, a sacred object is being mocked, a private future is being stolen. If the suggestion reaches the correct layer of Expectation, attention records the shock before judgment arrives.
But the seismograph also gives a discipline. When attention is taken, ask what ground moved. Did Actual really shift, or did an idea inside Expectation buckle under a rumor? Was prediction wrong, or was a borrowed ideology pretending to be bedrock? The first theft of attention may be involuntary. The second act can still be intelligent.
Human attention is normalized accumulated surprise across micro-instants. It gathers the tremors that do not immediately resolve and makes them conscious as this matters now. The task is not to live without ground. The task is to know which ground can be corrected when Reality moves.
R = Actual / (P + iI) | Surprise = ln(R) | Attention = normalized accumulated surprise
