Reality is the ratio between what actually happened and what was expected to happen.
Actual is delivered by the Immutable Past—still, complete, unchangeable, and (for measurement) normalized to 1. Expectation is received, not chosen: its real component comes from the subconscious prediction machine; its imaginary component comes from ideas that arrive as conditioned love with design and bias. The conscious mind does not set either component; it inherits both. E = |E| eiθ = ReE + iImE
Expectation as a complex quantity: magnitude |E| and phase angle θ.
The emotional charge of an event is the surprise embedded in the ratio. Its signed intensity is the natural log: S= ln ( Actual Expectation )
S > 0 pleasant surprise, S = 0 neutral, S < 0 unpleasant surprise.
Key discipline: Never overwrite the numerator. Substituting a desired outcome for Actual produces fiction (Desired⁄Expectation), not reality. That substitution is the engine of both fear and hope.
The Mountain Analogy
Imagine a single mountain whose unseen core at the base holds the Immutable Past. Height represents uncertainty (information entropy). Time is descent: from clouded summit to the still point below. You are a smooth marble rolling downhill under gravity (the entropic gradient).
Mapping Terrain to Math
- Gravity = Entropic gradient. The inevitability that Actual will arrive; events move from uncertain to certain.
- Terrain = Re E. Ridges, bowls, and channels reflect the subconscious prediction machine’s learned structure.
- Weather = Im E. Ideas are atmospheric events—fog (subtle bias), rain (moderate influence), hail (powerful ideas that strike and redirect).
- Gyroscope = phase θ. Orientation of Expectation: habitual (θ near 0), idea-dominated (θ near π/2), or balanced.
- False bottoms (eddies) = local minima in the entropy landscape. Passive traps created by terrain (prediction patterns) where the marble lingers with low surprise.
Sequencing Experience
Each roll downhill yields a new measurement: Reality(t)= Actual(t) Expectation(t)
A time-indexed stream of ratios; the log stream ln(Actual⁄Expectation) is the numeric trace of felt experience.
Idea–False Bottom Interaction
False bottoms are passive terrain features (Re E) where prediction variance settles into suboptimal stability. Ideas, however, actively exploit them using a dwell tool: desire, obsession, fixation—any atmospheric strategy that lengthens your stay in their weather cell.
In math terms, the dwell tool acts primarily on the imaginary axis and phase: it injects a persistence term into θ and modulates Im E, delaying lateral exits from the eddy. When a strong idea’s dwell tool overlays an existing false bottom, escape typically requires a disruptive event (another powerful idea) or a terrain shift (significant change in prediction).
Passive vs. active: A false bottom can release you when new evidence updates the prediction machine. A dwell tool can hold you even without a perfect bowl—but it demands continuous “weather.” Together, they create the strongest capture.
Clean Descent and the Witness
The witness never fears or hopes; it feels the tilt cleanly. The participant (the marble) often replaces Actual with Desired and then reacts to that fiction. Ending this substitution restores direct contact with reality: surprise remains, but it is clean—untainted by invented numerators.
Quantities to Teach and Measure
- Emotional charge: S = ln(Actual⁄Expectation).
- Expectation geometry: E = |E| e^{iθ}; decompose to Re E (terrain) and Im E (weather/ideas).
- Dwell time: persistence within a weather cell; operationalize as time above a threshold of phase lock or idea-induced variance.
- False bottom depth: stability of the local minimum; estimate via variance of Re E and escape latency after perturbation.
- Clean vs. distorted sequences: detect numerator overwrites by spotting pre-event numerators equal to desires; exclude to recover true ln sequence.
Lifecycle of an Idea on the Mountain
- Arrival (Weather Onset): Idea enters as a change in Im E and phase θ; initial redirection.
- Capture (Lock-In): Path intersects a terrain pocket; idea aligns with a false bottom.
- Dwell (Actualization Window): Dwell tool sustains presence; gravity and terrain complete steering toward the idea’s preferred quadrant of the Immutable Past.
- Release (Perturbation/Escape): New idea (hail) or terrain update (evidence) unlocks the eddy; path resumes broader descent.
In sum, Actual is always given; Expectation is always received. Reality is their ratio, not a co-creation. The mountain makes this visible; the math makes it measurable.
$$\text{Reality}=\dfrac{\text{Actual}}{\text{Expectation}}$$ $$S=\ln\!\left(\dfrac{\text{Actual}}{\text{Expectation}}\right)$$ $$E=\lvert E\rvert e^{i\theta}= \operatorname{Re}E + i\,\operatorname{Im}E$$
