Reality does not respond to desire. It responds to configuration. The cosmos is submerged in unconditioned love—a boundless, biasless field of energy that interacts only with your current state. Not your potential. Not your hopes. Not your regrets. Only what you are now. That is the point of contact.
And so the path to making better history, while often framed as action, is more precisely described as a change in configuration. Because action, in truth, flows from configuration. It is not what you do. It is what you are being when you do it.
This is the secret. You don’t become something over time. You don’t grow into it. You don’t achieve it through stages. You configure yourself into it—immediately. And the unconditioned love of the cosmos will respond to that configuration by feeding it the exact energy it needs to thrive. Not because it loves one configuration more than another, but because it is love itself, responding in perfect proportion to what is.
So the question is never, “How do I change?”
The question is, “Who am I right now?”
I. Discipline: The Configuration of Devotion
There are only two true modes of making better history. The first is the path of discipline. Discipline is not force. Discipline is the commitment to a configuration. It is not a ladder. It is a shape. And once you assume that shape, everything else follows.
Do you wish to be a monk?
Then be a monk. Now.
Dress like one. Wake like one. Speak like one. Sit like one. Not because these externals are magic, but because your current configuration is the magnetic blueprint that draws unconditioned love into form. And it must interact with what is. So give it something worthy to interact with.
You are not training to become a yogi. You are not hoping to achieve priesthood. You are not preparing to be a serious entrepreneur. That posture—preparation, becoming, training—is a trap. It is a configuration of not yet. And unconditioned love, ever precise, will interact with your not yet and give you… more of it.
To change your life, you must configure yourself into the shape of the one whose life you wish to have. Right now.
Reality is not cumulative. It is immediate.
Discipline begins with being, not doing.
II. Lover of the Divine: The Configuration of Surrender
The second mode of making better history is to fall in love with the divine. This is not a feeling. It is not a philosophy. It is not an exploration. It is a configuration. You are either in love or you are not. And when you are, your behaviors follow without effort.
If you’ve ever been in love, you know this already.
You don’t schedule reminders to think about them.
You don’t plan to prioritize them.
You are simply configured as one in love. Your thoughts orbit. Your actions align. Your attention flows in their direction without discipline. This is the second—and perhaps higher—configuration: to be the lover of the divine.
There is no mastery required. No theology to learn. You do not need to understand the divine to love it. You do not need to define it. You only need to assume the shape of the beloved’s lover. And from that posture, history begins to write itself.
Being in love is a configuration.
It is how you carry your body, your voice, your breath, your thoughts.
It is the softness with which you see the world.
It is the curiosity that floods every moment.
And when your configuration is that of the divine’s lover, unconditioned love does not need to search for you. It finds its match. And it flows.
III. The Mistake of Hoping, Trying, or Becoming
The eternal now—the only place you’ve ever lived—is unforgiving of delay. It does not honor intentions. It does not recognize attempts. It interacts only with what is. And so when your configuration is “someone trying to change,” the infinite substance of love treats you as such. It feeds that configuration with more of itself: delay, process, hope.
This is why change is so elusive for most.
They hope to feel different before they act different.
They wait to be motivated before they move.
But change never comes from waiting.
Change is the movement.
Change is the new configuration.
So if you want to be a monk, be one now.
If you want to be a poet, write now.
If you want to be a saint, forgive now.
If you want to be free, act as one who is free.
Not because you believe it. Not because it feels natural.
Because your current configuration is the only place where the divine can meet you.
IV. Even the Pebble Responds to Configuration
And what about the third affliction—the one that arises from the numerator? Separation anxiety. The subtle ache of having been threaded out of oneness into the role of a distinct you. This pain cannot be cured. It is the cost of individuality. But even here, configuration holds the key.
To love the divine is to configure yourself as one who remembers home. And when that configuration holds, the ache becomes background noise. The pebble remains, but the joy of walking through Walt Disney World overtakes it.
You do not need to eliminate the pain.
You only need to fall so deeply in love with the divine that even separation begins to shimmer.
V. There Is Only Now
So stop learning. Stop preparing. Stop waiting.
You are already submerged in love. The medium is everywhere.
It is waiting for your shape.
And the moment you change your configuration, the moment you be what you have claimed you wish to become, the energy shifts. The history shifts. Reality bends.
Not because you tried.
But because the universe is precise.
It gives to the configuration it meets.
So meet it now.
Change your configuration.
Make better history.
