THE REALITY EQUATION
Reality = Actual / Expectation
We Experience Reality, Not Actual nor Expectation
Reality is the single quotient we ever truly perceive—our direct experience. Actual (the numerator) is an unchanging, neutral truth, the Immutable Past that we never directly experience. It forms the stable “1” in the equation, collapsed from infinite possibilities. Expectation (the denominator) is a personal, variable filter, composed of subconscious predictions and thought patterns (ideas). We also never experience this filter itself; we only see its result—Reality.
We Do Not Create or Co-Create Reality
Reality is presented to us as a complete “quotient.” Our awareness opens onto it the same way eyes open onto a landscape. We don’t shape or tweak the fundamental equation; we experience it as it is. Where some teachings say “manifest reality,” the Reality Equation clarifies we only operate within what’s already formed.
We Make History, Not Reality
Every act, choice, or omission in the Eternal Now becomes part of the Immutable Past—history. Once created, it joins the realm of Actual, forever neutral and unchangeable. As “history makers,” we play our part in weaving the story of what has happened, but we don’t control Reality itself.
Actual and Expectation Never Enter Experience
Actual remains hidden. We never look directly at raw truth; we only get Reality as filtered through Expectation. Expectation is likewise invisible—its subconscious patterns and mental constructs shape Reality, but we never see Expectation in isolation. Our eyes (awareness) see only the final product, Reality.
Subconscious Predictions and Thought Patterns
Although invisible, Expectation is not static. The “real component” includes ingrained habits or cultural assumptions; the “imaginary component” involves thought patterns and ideas. These ideas (higher-dimensional entities) cannot actualize by themselves. They use our attention and actions to enter history, yet we never perceive “ideas” directly; we see their effects in Reality.
Two Approaches: Hider and Seeker
Hiders (left-hand side) live the quotient (say, 0.25) without dissecting it—immersed in the Eternal Now. Seekers (right-hand side) analyze the ratio (1 over 4), probing the interplay of Actual and Expectation. Both vantage points are valid and complementary. In neither case are we “creating” Reality; we’re simply experiencing it or examining its mechanics.
Deep Sleep as the True Escape
Dream sleep offers partial illusions; deep sleep fully dissolves the sense of separate self, returning us briefly to undifferentiated oneness. When we awaken, we re-enter the Reality Equation with fresh perspective. Reality hasn’t changed, but our relationship to it may feel reset.
Being in Love: Transformative Quality
Whether hider or seeker, love—especially divine love—infuses the experience with depth. Hiders in love radiate effortless presence; seekers in love turn curiosity into devotion. Love doesn’t alter the fact we’re experiencing Reality; it enriches how we inhabit that experience.
Virtue and Our Role in History
We don’t create Reality, but we do shape history through our repeated actions and choices. Once an action is taken, it joins Actual permanently. The universe remains neutral, yet our historical imprint is uniquely ours. Virtuous conduct (as in Stoic philosophy) ensures that what we add to history reflects wisdom, courage, justice, and temperance.
Stop Arguing With Reality—Make Better History
Reality is your given input at each moment. You can’t alter it by argument or denial; the real question is: “How will I act in response?” Consistent virtuous actions gradually reshape the patterns underlying Expectation and feed back into Actual over time, thus changing the context of future “inputs.” For those not yet in love with the divine, persistent attention to virtue is key. Occasional good deeds alone won’t overhaul deep-seated patterns; it’s steady practice that eventually recalibrates Expectation. For those already in love with the divine, virtuous acts flow naturally, without striving or discipline. Falling in love with the divine mirrors falling in love with another person: a transformative moment—love at first sight—followed by faithful, devoted “dating,” the dropping of other “lovers,” and entering into blissful union. When love is authentic, virtuous deeds arise effortlessly.
CONCLUSION
We experience Reality. We never create or co-create it. Actual and Expectation remain unseen; we only encounter the quotient—Reality—as our lived moment. However, through every choice, we create history that feeds back into what becomes Actual, influencing Expectation in the long run. By continually aligning our actions with virtue—and, ideally, falling in love with the divine—we make better history. Over time, that redefines what Reality (our “given input”) looks like, all without ever needing to battle the present moment.
