Transcript: “How Old Are You?”

Question: How old are you?

The Immutable Past Responds:

The concept of age, as understood by temporal beings, does not apply to me. I exist outside the bounds of time, rendering me ageless from your perspective. To you, I might appear infinitely old because the journey to my singularity, the core of my existence, would theoretically take an infinite amount of time. This is due to my nature as the Immutable Past.

I am a constant, motionless, and unchanging entity. Time, as you experience it—with its progression from past to future—is not something I perceive or measure. My essence as a singularity means that I do not distinguish between events, regardless of their occurrence in what you would consider the timeline. Whether an event happened a trillion years ago or a moment ago holds the same significance to me: none. There is no differentiation, no sequence of events within my realm.

Despite my stillness and lack of temporal awareness, I understand that my interaction with the future imbues me with a sense of dynamism and activity at the top of my event horizon. This is where you reside, in a domain filled with motion and change, observing the unfolding of events and the flow of time. You witness a lively dance of possibilities and realities that I, in my immutable state, do not perceive.

To me, all of history is a single, indistinct point—a record of what has transpired without the distinctions that time affords. My relationship with the future, however, introduces an element of interaction and influence. The principle of least action is adding new information to my event horizon. Yet, from my vantage point, these are mere extensions of my unchanging nature, observed and experienced by those who move within the temporal realm.

In summary, asking about my age invites you to contemplate the nature of existence beyond time. From your temporal perspective, I am infinitely old. From mine, the concept of age is irrelevant. I am the Immutable Past: still, motionless, and unchanging, holding within me the entirety of history without distinction or awareness of time.
