Implementing a role-based approach to social media significantly reduces stress and gives me clarity in most of my actions. It answers the simple questions:
- What should I post?
- How often should I post?
- Should I post at all?
- What purpose if any do my interactions on social media have?
- Which Groups should I join?
- Should I have a Page? If so, how many?
If you approach social media as a tool to help manage your roles, you will find it quite useful. The secret is to ONLY use social media to help you manage your roles. As you well know it’s easy to get lost down the rabbit hole of aimless scrolling.
Taking a role-based approach to social media may reduce the stress for you as it did for me. Here’s my diagram:
It comes down to how many minutes per day you spend on social media. You should set your budget and stick to it.
- Did you spend that time with specific role-based goals in mind or aimless scrolling?
- Did you ADD to the conversation in a productive manner?
- Did you LEARN anything?
- Did you DIRECT your limited actions with purpose or wander? Remember, you’re on a time budget.
- Did you EARN trust?
